Arriving in Gran Canaria is every time a journey to an island of the contrasts. Gran Canaria has more than 300 sunny days in the year and is therfore a whole annual destination. Whether at Easter or also at Christmas- here dominates the sun.
Gran Canaria is disposed of all four climatic zones of the world, so contrary are the weather and the vegetation, with pine woods and heathland regions, and this just as at a size of only 50 km of diameters. While it is quite green in the north, it often rains and always is a couple of degree cooler than in the south, it is very warm here and the vegetation rather looks like a desert landscape with elevations up to 2000 m of height.
Gran Canaria is not only for bathing holiday-makers a fantastic holiday destination but also for hikers, water sportsmen and golfers. Numerous walks by nature reserves, deep canyons, past at volcano craters or in the midst of coloured flower meadows, diving, jet ski driving, paragliding, sailing, surfing, golfing, the most different Spa Treatments etc. The facets of this miniature continent are very versatile and stands open right above on the feeling scale.
Our taxi ride from the airport brings us on a very well developed motorway, within only 20 minutes to the south of the island, past to Playa de Ingles and Maspalomas, a little inland a hilly mountain road up to an area developed completely newly in 2006 with a view to the Ayagaures valley.
In the midst of a meagre hill landscape lies the Salobre golf course, being like an oasis. With its 27 hole and a length up to 6,112 metres it is the biggest of the island. In planning is a 36 hole construction until spring 2008. Due to its position it offers panoramic views of the sea and the mountains.
Summer cottages of the most different size and built in modern design and the Sheraton Salobre Golf Resort & Spa ranks itself expertly around this masterpiece. Guests of the Sheraton Salobre Golf Resort & Spa can comfortably come from the hotel to the golf course in a buggy. Living in the midst of the course!
Still a little tiredly of our early flight from Germany we pay our taxi-driver and are received at the entrance very friendly and casually. A warm wind blows us around the nose already in the early morning hours- so the air conditioning and the welcome drink refreshes us even twice.
Already our first impression of the hotel is overwhelming. 11 levels and 17 building complexes nestle to the mountain massif as created by nature. Nothing would fit better here than the obstructed natural stones from the surroundings, wood in the most different variants and the rust-coloured of the facade.
A 5-star hotel with 313 rooms, 3 restaurants, 4 bars, several conference rooms, kids club and Spa area resulted on a total area of 39,168 m². A garden area of 29,389 m² and 7 pools surround the hotel in a quite special way, which one must certainly see and experience.
Level 0 and 1:
Our day starts here at the reception where we are welcomed very courteously. All formalities are taken care as quickly as possible so that we are able to admire involuntary the modern and stylish ambiance of the reception building. Also inside all sorts of type of wood, compined with concrete and loud colours result most beautiful contrasts. In front of us a broad, curved stairs curls. Arrived above one finds numerous sitting areas, book and internet corners, the big window areas offer of almost every place a fantastic look to outside.
To the mountain side a patio laid out extensively opens itself, what emerges as a meeting place of the guests in the afternoon and in the evening. The evening can wonderfully be brought to an end in lounge corners which are comfortable and let in into the earth. The adjacent bar "+230" sprays an almost mystical atmosphere.
Modern illuminants in loud orange and colossally big round candles in the colours yellow and orange wrap the evening light in a warm, eased atmosphere.
Level 5:
Here starts the pool area. Several smaller pools, everyone with separate couches curl over 2 levels. Connected by sandstone couloured stairs one has the pain of the choice. Every pool forms a unity for itself so that one can have his quite personal empire. Palms and agaves line the ways. Everywhere are clear glass parapets, for not to hidden the vision to the valley, on the mountains and on the golf course. Who would like a little more surface of water lies on
Level 7:
at the big community pool with an adjacent restaurant and pool bar. In the "La Palmera" one can eat light Mediterranean dishes from 1pm to 5pm. Timber floor boards and silver-coloured couches complete the whole pool and restaurant area in its noble appearance.
The higher one arrived in the Sheraton Salobre, all the more one loves it. From level to level it kindles an even bigger beauty and the tension and the astonishment increase up to the immense. As Plato already said: "The amazement is the beginning of the knowledge".
Level 11:
The level 11 is the absolute highlight of the hotel. Once, who was above, would not like to miss it. It is a world for itself. A little away from the other facilities is established the kids club with playground and child pool. By single stairs in conjunction with each other several little floors form to sunbathing and relaxing. Two artificial rivers pass the broad area.
Early in the morning the ideal place for our daily Qi gong exercises, here one feels one with himself and the nature. The magnificent view from here above does its last thing. Where otherwise than at the "roof of the world", is the Putting Green. At the outer end high above, the staircase like to a pyramid, a big pool with pool bar sits enthroned.
In the afternoon, one meets here primarily the younger audience, because the atmosphere is trendy and the Chill music from the Sun set bar underlines the happy get-together. Big Balinese beds line themselves across country between olive trees.
The Sheraton Salobre is the ideal vacation spot to relax. Far away from mass tourism one can organize his holiday eased and variedly. The choice of restaurants in the hotel is very versatile and the quality is excellent.
Whether in the À´la Carte gourmet restaurant "Cameleon" unusual Mediterranean dishes, Tapas in the bar "Perenquen" or buffets and show cooking in the "Gofio", in everybody the meal is a pleasure and the service is excellent.
The Sheraton Salobre enables to take part in the beach event of Maspalomas. A cost-free, hourly shuttle to the beach area stands at the disposal. In only 10 minutes one is right in the middle of it. To one side the legendary dune countryside of Maspalomas with a height of up to 10 m and to the other side beach and shopping arcades with numerous stores. It cannot be more comfortable.
Directly next to the seafront, a stylish beach house is available for the Sheraton guests. Generous singles shower rooms and changing rooms and a small pool is availably, a cool drink at the bar before the shopping ramble- this is holiday.
Barely our toes in the sand of Maspalomas, our feet get a a refreshing pedicure in the Aloe Spa. For the next days we have booked further treatments, because the supply in the Sheraton Salobre Aloe Spa is very extensively.
The most different face and body treatments are on the programme. At massages like the Swedish massage, the Thai, Reflexzone Massage, Tandem Massage or Shiatsu etc. one has the pain of the choice.
The interior is very modern, tones like dark brown were expertly combined with a warm lime green. One feels comfortable at first go. The 1658 m ² provides a generous and clear division of the facilities. Several saunas and steam bath, Hammam, Whirlpool with Hydromassage, 9 treatment rooms and relaxing area are arranged squarely. Outside, there is a vigorous pool with massage jets and a fantastic look to the golf course.
Massages in the open like under a canopy are also possible. The Aloe Spa bases on the 7 columns of the well-being which are: Inner beauty, harmony, vitality, water, vigorous balance, nutrition and nature. These 7 columns were converted very well.
For the vitality a health studio with the most modern, computer-aided equipment is also available and Pilates hours highly above at the Sunset Pool also are offered.
The Sheraton Salobre is a hotel which has recognized and solved excellently the most different needs of its guests. Families, couples, young or old, Spa holiday-makers, golfers or even business travellers- the Sheraton Salobre offers the adequate frame for everyone.
