 The lymphatic drainage is a special massage which regenerates the tired connective tissue and releives the fabric with gentle, pumping out massage techniques.

Origin:
The manual lymphatic drainage became develops of the Danish physiotherapists Emil Vodder. He worked in Cannes (the South of France) in an institute for physical therapy about 50 years ago. There he observed that health cure patients often showed swollen lymph nodes strongly at the neck with chronic cold diseases. Vodder massaged- against the opinion in those days- the extended neck lymph nodes of a young man with careful trick and pumping moves. The young man was getting well. Out of this experience Vodder developed the manual lymphatic drainage.
Effect:
With the help of the lymph vessel water is taken away of the fabric and brought back into the blood vessels. If the lymphatic system is disturbed in its function, the body water builds up in the fabric and it comes to swellings (oedemata). Aims of the therapy concept of the lymphatic drainage to restore the disturbed balance between the amount of fabric water and the efficiency of the lymph tracts. The immune system shall be activated at the same time. The lymphatic drainage is part of the manual therapy forms like the classic massage and the connective tissue massage.
Fields of application:
The lymphatic drainage is primarily for example suitable for complaints at which it comes to traffic-jams (oedemata) of lymph or water in the fabric:
- Lymphedemas
- Oedemata at rheumatic illnesses
- Swellings after injuries
In addition, the lymphatic drainage is regularly used at the following illnesses:
- Respiratory tract diseases of strong mucous obstruction
- Nerve pains
- Certain forms of the migraine
