Le Telfair’s 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Matkovich & Hayes one of the leading golf course landscapers and designers in South Africa. The course they have designed has some unique and challenging features including two rivers, Citronniers and St Martin, that run through it, as well as the Château de Bel Ombre with its beautiful French gardens. Golfers walking the tracks to the next hole, enjoy a magnificent view of both the lagoons and the mountains.
Notwithstanding the incredible scenic beauty of his many courses Peter Matkovich believes that golf is a strategic game and that the prime responsibility of the Architect is to provide a challenge to a golfer that is commensurate with his or her skill and ability.
Each hole can be played in a variety of ways some of which entail a greater degree of risk than others. Golfers who, because of their temperament and skill, successfully accept the challenge are rewarded. But so too are golfers who are aware of their limitations and because of the opportunities offered by their handicaps, adopt a more conservative approach using artfully concealed alternative fairways. |
